Trevor
Fowler seems like a regular family man living in an affluent suburb of London. He is semi-retired
but has gone missing while at a business conference in Rome. Richard Bradley,
trying to develop his business as a private detective, is hired by his wife
to find him. The search takes Richard to various seedy gay venues in London and Rome before he discovers that
his quarry was being blackmailed. His researches uncover suicide, fraud
and violence and he becomes implicated in a murder. Richard becomes
increasingly perplexed about what could have happened to Trevor. He struggles to know how much of the truth
to reveal to Trevor's wife. Avoiding
emotional encounters with people he meets during his investigations, he
becomes intrigued with the homosexual Clifford and begins to find out much
about himself.
